David B.

David B. (pseudonym of Pierre-François David Beauchard) was born in 1959 in Nîmes.
Although he trained as a graphic designer, in 1985 David B. began working as a scriptwriter and illustrator for various magazines (Okapi, À suivre, Tintin Reporter, Chic).
In 1990, he assumed an increasingly central role in the comics scene, thanks in part to the founding of the publishing house L'Association together with Jean-Christophe Menu, Lewis Trondheim, Matt Konture, Patrice Killoffer Stanislas, and Mokeït. Most of his works from the 1990s were published in the magazine Lapin, and later collected in the volumes Le Cheval blême and Les Incidents de la nuit.
From 1996 to 2003, he worked on L'Ascension du Haut Mal, a six-volume autobiographical graphic novel that won the screenplay award at the Angoulême Film Festival. Since 1997, he has collaborated with other publishers as well as with L'Association, a publishing house he left in 2005 and returned to in 2011 as a member of the reading committee.
In 2018, he published the 37th volume of the Alix series, titled Veni Vidi Vici, as a screenwriter in collaboration with illustrator Giorgio Albertini. The volume was released to mark the 70th anniversary of the birth of Jacques Martin's character.
His latest book, Monsieur Chouette, is forthcoming in Italy from Sigaretten.
