Francesco Maria Spampinato
Francesco Spampinato is a full professor of contemporary art history at the Department of Arts at the University of Bologna. His research focuses on contemporary artistic practices and visual studies, with a focus on the relationship between contemporary art, media, and technology, collective dynamics, electronic culture, and art's capacity to generate agency in addressing pressing issues such as environmental issues. His publications include the monographs Come Together: The Rise of Cooperative Art and Design (Princeton Architectural Press, 2015), Art Record Covers (TASCHEN, 2017), Art vs. TV: A Brief History of Contemporary Artists’ Responses to Television (Bloomsbury, 2022), and the edited volumes The Pandemic Visual Regime: Visuality and Performativity in the Covid-19 Crisis (Punctum Books, 2023), and Arti come Agency. Il valore sociale e politico delle arti nelle comunità (FrancoAngeli, 2024) and Skank Bloc Bologna: Alternative Art Spaces since 1977 (Mousse, 2024). Spampinato is also responsible for a series of innovative teaching projects related to sustainability within the framework of relationships with European and African universities.
