Lika Nüssli - a multifaceted Swiss artist, storyteller, and illustrator - utilizes mediums that include everything from illustration and comics to large-format painting and live performances conceived for the spaces in which she works.
A occhi aperti presents her first solo exhibition in Italy, coinciding with the release of her first book, Cosa forte, published by Sigaretten. In it, Nüssli retraces, with brutality and tenderness, her father's harsh childhood in the Swiss mountains, where his parents entrusted his care to a family of farmers. In addition to showcasing the visual elements of the original comic strip panels, the temporary exhibition spaces of the Museo Internazionale della Musica enable the exploration of the connection between the artist's work and the dimension of sound. Trained as a textile designer, Nüssli works with large canvases painted with saturated, vibrant colors, following the flow generated by various sonics, often performed live by musicians. Music is, therefore, central to the exhibition, which combines the more comic book-esque and performative dimensions, including a site-specific performance with live musicians.
On Saturday, November 22nd at 6:30 p.m., the exhibition opens with the performance:
Quando cala l’oscurità/ When Darkness Falls
with Lika Nüssli and live music by Elliptic3
Federico Eterno - alto & baritone saxophone
Filippo Giuffrè - guitar & electronics
Luca Bernard - double bass
WORKSHOP
For A occhi aperti 2025, Lika Nüssli will conduct a Visual Poetry workshop at URCA Studio, where the group exhibition of works by young artists from the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna opens on Friday, November 20th at 7:00 p.m.
