How can we design a monument without knowing where it will be placed?
How can we imagine its history without visiting it?
How can we make a comic book without deciding in advance how to draw it?

This is the challenge set by artist and cartoonist Sammy Stein in the five-day intensive workshop he designed for Ad occhi aperti.

The workshop involves a group of artists of different backgrounds, styles and skills, according to the core philosophy of Ad occhi aperti': drawing is as a process, not a result.

Students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, which on this occasion begins the  celebrations for the 20th anniversary of its BA in Comics and Illustration, will work side by side with cultural operators of  Centro di Documentazione Handicap - Cooperativa Accaparlante, an association providing cultural and social services to people with disabilities.

Through simple drawing exercises and a fast-paced rhythm, Stein invites them to question what it means to inhabit an imaginary space, inventing its history and future.
A workshop by Sammy Stein, curated by Hamelin and Titivil.
Sponsored by Fondazione Carisbo, Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna, Institut Français Italia. In partnership with Centro di Documentazione Handicap - Cooperativa Accaparlante.
